In Hush, Don't Tell Nobody Kyle Doty weaves a story about tragedy and forgiveness. Part poetic memoir, part present-day ruminations, this daring collection explores the complexity of human relationships, child abuse, and the Divine. "As with abstract impressionist painting, the apparent simplicity of the poems in Hush, Don't Tell Nobody belie a profound complexity and deep and satisfying richness. This is a major debut, and Kyle Doty is a poet to watch." - Charles Blackstone, managing editor of Bookslut and author of Vintage Attraction and The Week You Weren't Here Kyle Doty is a Middle School English teacher. He lives in Southwest Florida-Tropicalia-with his family, where he is at work on his next collection of poetry.

In "Hush, Don't Tell Nobody," Kyle Doty uses poetry and prose in a seemingly simplistic manner to convey a journey of childhood betrayal and abuse, the anger and pain that betrayal manifests, and the ultimate terminus of forgiveness. In actuality, Doty's work is an example of the masterful use of words as he weaves a tale of abuse, love (from God and people), and redemption. In reading "Hush, Don't Tell Nobody", I ran the emotional gamut as a survivor of childhood abuse. From the Voice of God to Confessions my tears flowed. At the line "...it's not your fault" I longed to hear someone say the same to me. The poem Metal Mouth is haunting with the allusion to suicidal thoughts. Finally, forgiveness and absolution are the culmination of the journey as found in April 26. I highly recommend "Hush, Don't Tell Nobody" to readers of all ages. A powerful read!Product details

AWESOME!! Kyle needs to write more!
I personally know the author and he took me back to some familiar places.
Fantastic book of poetry. Truly enjoyable. I can't wait for Kyle Doty's next book.
This book was so good. I sat and read it until the end. I'm not someone who reads a lot of poetry but this book has changed that forever! I am a fan! I eagerly waiting to see what Kyle Doty writes next.
While reading Hush, Don't Tell Nobody I often stopped and pondered. I'll be at the sink doing dishes, driving to the store, or on my evening walk and Kyle Doty's words come creeping back into my mind. It's as though this book has gotten inside of me and has become a part of me. Hush, Don't Tell Nobody has become part of my human texture. This is hunting yet beautiful work.
Kyle takes you on a journey into the depths of humanity, full of complexities, joys and challenges. His take on simple things like a Florida afternoon shower or a quiet walk down a paved sidewalk are fresh and invigorating. His exploration of deeper issues like abuse and spirituality are penned with equal fervor. Hush, Don't Tell Nobody is satisfying for both the literary scholar and the casual reader.
I have found in the past decade, that a well written book of poetry is rare and an oddity. This book is exception. The author’s prose flows its haunting messages. Each word is carefully thought out to draw emotion from the next and draw from the one before. Once you begin reading it, you likely won’t put it down. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I did.
